Did I mention... free?If you don't have Steam and have a decent computer, get it for this, at least. And add me :D
I've been waiting all day for this.
steam servers too busy ;_:
I can get a TF2 hat. It can suck balls for all I care.

So, is this a dual-stick shooter, or what? Like can I play this with my 360 controller and have fun, or am I gonna have to use my mouse (gross).

Oh god it's so fun.
I've only just got it working now downloading now. Goddammit.
I'm finished.
Downloading now!But it's gonna take me a while to install.

Game is pretty tight. Added my own soundtrack etc. It's pretty much L4D but top-down.
>>87308And persistant weapons.I like different squad makeups.

>>87365Yeah, I did that, it just wasn't showing up. It's there now, though. Looks awesome on Pyro.
DID SOMEBODY SAY FREE HAT?!
This is seriously fun. Missions are a little short, but still, it's awesome. It's like that one cutscene from Starcraft when they're blasting Zerg on that Research Vessel
>>87381It's an arcade shoot'em up is what it is. And it's pure magic.
Head-huggers give me brain cancer.
Modding community can do wonders with this game.
Needs a flashlight methinks. Also more incentive to stop and read the PDAs.Also also, FUCK THESE PARASITES GOD SHIT MORE THAN ONE CAN ATTACK AT A TIME
This game would a thousand times better if the parasites and flying bugs were moved or changed. The flying bugs pretty much guarantee at least one hit and a parasite WILL kill you or at least make it so the medic wont be able to heal anyone else any more,It ended with a guy and his flamethower at the front with the rest of the team carrying extra ammo as he burned EVERYTHING
>>87409Sounds like a pretty good strat actually.
>>87406I hope to be able to say that I played Alien Swarm before they nerfed the fuck out of parasites. And I agree with you on the flashlights and PDAs. Your team will not stop to read PDAs with you. Ever.>>87409Yes. Same thing happened to me, minus the "rest of the team" part because we all died and the only guy left was lucky enough to have a flamethrower. Damn parasites. Also? The game needs a damn manual. Gaming veterans know what to do, but nobody else does/will.
Yeah, I spent about an hour and a half trying to plow through with three other guys. Medic is just frustrating. I'll stick with gunner.PARASITESGAH
>chainsaw flamethrower combo
>How I feel with flamethrower/rifle.
The game is pure magic with friends, but it really suffers in pick up games. At anyrate, I'm totally game for a playthrough right now. I usually roll as Officer (Sarge) or Technician (Crash).
Apparently there's a shitload of console commands, including ones that let you switch to first person, and one that lets you activate a fucking AI Director.
>Flamethrower, nothing else, all the timeFeels good man.>>87406There's a flashlight for the third slot, not that it's really worth taking.
>dying>all day erry dayIf I had the chainsaw, things would be different around here...
Can't wait for new campaigns or mods.
So some guy says he's found a secret boss. I'm not so sure about HOLY CRAP!
Holy shit this game is hard and I love it.Just played with Max Galactica, Gibbermad, and some other bro. We were playing on easy mode and we kept dying.A lot.Probably my fault. I am unmatched in the realm of friendly fire.
I love portions where you're forced to mow through waves of enemies. You've got no choice but to just pour entire armories of firepower into the enemy mass in front of and behind you.
>>87456I just beat it on hard with a few friendsAnd I sucked. We died a lot though.
>>87456I'm surprised you never actually managed to kill any of us.
>>87455 >So some guy says he's found a secret boss. That doesn't surprise me, theres probably a LOT of unused content left for folks to discover in the released SDK.You know what that makes me think this game is, though? 4-player Contra. (Well, okay, on Insane mode, maybe).
>>87475It would for me if Wolfe ran around shirtless.
The modders are quite quick with maps.
>>87488
where is my hyrule field map i wish to roll and pretend its just as fast as walking
>>87488 "Looks like you're ready for your first parasite!"
First it took ages to download for me and everybody in my friends list was playing it without me.Then I finally set it up on my parent's computer (I'm at their place for the "vacation" since I work in their town) and the framerate is bad plus it made the computer overheat. Then I set it up on my own computer, and at that point it wouldn't let me join my friends games most of the times for no reasons at all.And now I realized that the game keeps freezing all the time on my computer, so I can't host either or actually play it at all decently. So yeah, fuck this game.
>>87501800x600 windowed low texture detail low effects detail no shadow detail
>>87501It isn't the games fault you suck at computers
>>87506making a computer WAY above the RECOMMENDED specs overheat is the game's faultnot being able to join friends game that are not full for no reason is the game's faultrandom freezing for no reasons is the game's faultterribly slow download speed is well, not the game's fault but the steam servers, and we're talking about a steam only gameso yeah keep your insults for yourself. This site really is circlejerk after all, if somebody isn't part of your butt-licking private club it's "you suck" after 5 mins.
>>87507 Senor is practically a card-carrying asshole, but you still have to fill out the Rage form.
>>87507No, seriously, my computer is WAY over the specs and I haven't had a single issue. It most likely is user error in some way, shape, or form.Overheating is absolutely never, ever, not in a million years, going to be a program's fault, I am sorry but that's the truth. If your processor or videocard is heating up too much then you did something wrong to get it to do that. Poor ventilation, bad fans, not enough fans, not a good enough heat sink. It is user error. Period.Don't get mad at senior, as if he's nice to anyone ever. If he thinks you did/said something stupid, he tells you. We've all been on the receiving end of it.Calm the shit down.
>>87509Actually, I've noticed my GPU temps are quite high in Alien Swarm. It seems odd. However, it's still under 70C, so it's a non issue.
>>87513Odd.
My computer overheats on Alien Swarm too. But I've got a video card a tier above what the rest of my rig is comfortable with. It overheats on TF2 once a blue moon.
And yeah, maps load super slow and the framerate chugs sometimes, which is weird for a friggin source game. But it's free arcade fun, get what you pay for.
>join pub game>be only tech>take forever to do hacks
One thing that irks me is how cumbersome it gets in close quarters. Combined with lag = lol ur ded. I've been getting a lot of that tonight, taking a lot of hits I shouldn't be etc. I hope it was just my hosts.
i wish i could lower my settings even more because i enjoy the gameplay more than the graphics yo and my poor ole comp is judderin

>>87509Yeah, except >>87518>>87565and also>Update today>Fixed crash to desktop on certain graphics cardsSo yeah, the game's fault. Hopefully this will fix the freezing issues I have too, and if it doesn't I hope they will at some point.

>>87587Use flamethrower, never pick up stupid extinguisher again.
Dear Ninja,Sorry for lighting you on fire so much. You are credit to team.Love,Toxie
Dear Sagehoge,I'm sorry I left you behind all the time, but I was dealing with some frequently distracting fire issues.Dagda had 183 friendly fires,Ninja
>>87634Sage was having keyboard issues. It would either make him keep running or stop dead, that is why he kept blowing up. I was on Skype with him.
>pick up fire extinguisher>realize later you forgot to go back to get your real gun
>>87644I finished one of the levels with nothing but a fire extinguisher, because one of the guys carrying our turret died, so I had two turrets. Once they were set up, there were no weapons left on the map but a fire extinguisher.Fuck yeah.
>>87587 >>I spend the end level dodging and punching aliensActually. I have a confession to make. I know you guys love the chainsaw, but......thats shit tier next to playing as a peace medic equipped with the power fist. I'm addicted to it.
>>87646That only works on Easy/Normal mode, though. In the harder modes the regular drones seem to outrange melee attacks and clearly outpace them.
>>87634>Other team members love dancing around madly with flamethrowers and tesla cannons>Constantly trying to get a clear shot so we can actually KILL some of these things while we're at it>Unlock chainsawAnd my team and I lived happily ever after.

>Deima Bridge run>Insane>Officer and medic only
>Playing a PuG>Idiot medic never heals anyone>Is the only one left at the end>can't fucking navigate, runs all the way back to near the beginning of the map, has to break down some doors I welded shut to get back quickly>Finally dies at the end>WHY DID YOU WELD THE DOORS YOU FUCKING IDIOT???Because there were swarms coming up from behind us you idiot, and if you hadn't gotten your dumb ass lost it would have never been an issue.
>>87696All of my deaths so far have been due to bad medics. And to people thinking you can get parasites off by shooting at them.
NO GUNSTURRETS ONLYFINAL DESTINATION...Except that you need a gun to shoot those barrels in the Freight Elevator part. GG anyway, guys!
>>87713 Next Up!>Two Peace Medics With Power Fists>Dual Chainsaws for everyone else>Insane Mode>Speed Run
I wonder if it would be possible to make maps with multiple floors that toggle invisibly when your character goes up or down stairs. I think portals or visgroups could do it cilent-side, entities and all.Now someone needs to convert all the L4D campaigns.
>everyone brings a chainsaw>chainsaw phalanx
>>87713You can punch 'em.
>>87786We tried that. For quite a while. I think it was because we were on Cargo Elevator, where you have to blow up the barrels to get across the pit with the toxic fumes coming up from it. Because that level's something of a tutorial, I imagine they prevent you from accidentally blowing the barrels up by punching them (or force you to have to shoot them).
Now that I'm over the initial wow a free game that is pretty good part, who else thinks they're going to release more campaigns, weapons, etc at a price?
>>87805 >they're going to release more campaigns, weapons, etc at a price?A stickied thread on their forums seems to suggest otherwise ("Why Alien Swarm Was Free"), as does their addition of the browser for add-on content. It seems to more be a tool and online platform for modders to get into different aspects of Steamworks and Hammer, since thats how the team started out: A group of modders. Also, I'm surprised that the tesla nerf wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
>>87806It wasn't all that bad, but I still am willing to deal with friendly fire in exchange for more firepower.Of course I'm the only one who ever seems to hit my teammates, but I'm the medic so it's coo'.>Miley Cyrus killed the TechI-I can fix that!
>>87806I figured it was free so that people would get Steam just to play it and were thus far more likely to buy something off of it.

What can I say. I hate Manson, but I loved his RE movie tracks.
so am i supposed to know how to take audio from youtube videos or what
>>88005Yes.http://www.video2mp3.net/
>>88005I've never found a program that can rip in the same quality as the audio displays in so I don't see why you would.
Completed this yesterday on hard with two of my friends (so we were 3 in total), was pretty fun! Would love to try insane, but you'd pretty much need 4 players for that.. We were really close to running out of ammo even on hard at the last two levels with just the three of us.

Holy crap, Insane's almost a different game altogether. What's that? Battle music? Think I've got a few ideas. . .
Old-school option.
And this one seems like it could fit oddly well.
>>87991ARE YOU DOING YOUR PART?Admittedly, in one game I found myself saying to myself as we got off the Dropship on the first level "I want every swingin' dick on the line! C'mon, you Apes! You wanna live forever?"
This thing is so much fun. And I get a new hat!
No mods out for this yet? What gives?
>>88389ive seen survival-mode maps on the list, does that count as a mod
>>88396Yes but they are horrible.
wait so does this promoting thing actually do anything besides show off meaningless medals
Natural Selection 2 Alpha is out over Steam to boot, so wondering if anyones tried that as well.
>>88405Not yet
finally finished a whole campaign on hard, the one dude who had a microphone really held the squad togetherthe difficulty levels of this game have some pretty steep differences
>>88427Normal/Hard are easy.Insane is hard. No steep differences though.
>>88531Insane puts parasites, bombardiers, and shieldbugs where they really shouldn't be.
>>88532Parasites are the only HUGE problem. But I haven't spent enough time in insane to know the bug placement like I do on normal/hard. The bugs are all in the same places on normal/hard, which is convenient, they're just stronger is all.
regular and hard are bad enough with the one or two guys who always charge into parasite rooms, parasites in random places sounds like guaranteed doom for all but the most alert teams
i underestimated the leader class's starter shotgun, its quite good now that ive taken it out for a spin, really shames the unlockable shotgun
>>88618Vindicator ftw.
Tropers are so funny to watch.
>people who shoot boomers even after they've swollen up
Is this game peer to peer, by the way? I say this because my router hates peer to peer, and I tend to have shit connections to games I'm not hosting.
>>88711yes
>>88713This explains why my game shits the bed every 5 minutes. Blech.
Just bought Alien Breed: Impact. Will let you know if it was worth the $7.50 by tonight.PS: probably not.
Pym gave me the free trial, I think it's really good, I just don't have a credit card so it's a pain for me to buy stuff off Steam.
>>88753This was @Ninja, but the quote thingies never showed up and I didn't notice.
Only played like 30 minutes of it so far and it's kind of exhausting. Not used to so much visual and auditory noise. There's fires, smoke, random sparkage, flashing lights, explosions, everything is creaking, etc. It's interesting and all but I can barely see shit and I don't know somethings there until I see red dots on my radar. Also these controls are shit why didn't they just use the same camera controls as Alien Swarm oh damn why isn't this co-op I'm scared
I was alone at Timor Station for the bomb escape. My tech survived long enough to activate it, then succumbed to the swarm. I ran the full length, tossing incendiary grenades behind me every couple of turns.Made it all the way to the end, dodging shield bugs and the swarm, the ship shootings things down so I could make it to the landing pad, ducking and rolling, relying on my body armor to keep me alive....And then right before the ship landed, two of the shieldbugs caught up and rammed me into a corner where at least 15 drones were hanging out.FML, I coulda been the hero. I guess there are no heroes....in war.
I just played with a group of Brazilians and they huehuehue'd for real. I felt like an anthropologist.
I have a question, if someone achieves Hat Trick, but doesn't has TF2, Does he gets the hat if he later gets TF2?
Also, some "Pro-tips".
>>8891151 friendly fire incidents? Amateur shit, play with Dagda sometime.
ONE GUYTHERE'S ALWAYS ONE ASSHOLE WHO THINKS HE'S THE BEST PLAYER IN THE UNIVERSEAND WHOSE STRATEGY IS ALWAYS 'RUN ON AHEAD AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND IGNORE THE REST OF THE PLAYERS'AND HE ALWAYS WINDS UP SPLITTING OUR TEAM UP AND GETTING US ALL KILLED, AND THEN BLAMING US.FUCK THAT GUY.
>>88961Clearly he is just a wimpy run-ahead guy. Move faster, the longer you stand around, the more they spawn, the better chance you have of dying.
>>88961I'm always the guy standing in the middle of the two halves of our team, trying to bridge the gap a bit, maybe convince that guy that HE SHOULDN'T HAVE RUN OFF WITH MY TESLA, THAT FUCKER.The same kind of person who takes all the ammo when you drop a satchel.
>You can chainsaw the rocks on Timor Station
>>89060>until that gets patched out>along with a general chainsaw nerf>hahahahahaha
>>88963>Move faster, the longer you stand around, the more they spawn, the better chance you have of dying. That's all well and good, and I do move the team as fast as I can, but running on ahead is such a boneheaded move I don't even. The team has to move at the pace of its slowest member, or else the team gets seperated and dies.
>>89066unless youre close to the end in which case FUK SLOW SCRUBZ
>>89068Yeah, that's a judgment call for sure. I've turned back to help people in the final stretch. I've also left them to die if I didn't think they'd make it anyway. Once the exit's in sight, getting as many teammates there as possible becomes priority number one.
>>89079>getting my ass in there and holding down the trigger on the entrance is priority one
>>89079 >>89081 I usually slap down mines or whip out the taser to help 'em out, but otherwise as long as one of us makes it, we all make it.Maybe they'll work in a counter to team-ditchers like they do for L4D: Bigger spawns on isolated characters farther away from the team, maybe.

Has anyone here played with the Director on? How is it?
>>89089More kills for me.Not that I needed them anyway. Scrubs.
Alright, I finally got myself to download this game. Is there anything I should know before I fire it up? And what's all this about custom music?
>>89533Don't shoot the eggs. Just stand near them until they hatch. They disperse health bonuses to the whole team!If someone is on fire, you have to melee them to put them out!Be sure you're directly up against and facing a wall when you use your homing missiles or they won't lock on!Use the welder to seal doors behind you. Make sure team mates don't get through to the same side you're on or they won't be able to go back to the save point! The chainsaw doesn't do friendly damage!Shield bugs can be stunned by meleeing them head-on!
>>89547It took me about 3 lines to see what you did there.
>>89533custom music is easy to use, go into options - audio and you should be able to choose from a file uploading system very similar to how pictures are uploaded to here! find the music folder and upload what you desire!other notes: rolling away from enemies resets your reloading timer and is liable to get you killed faster than simply backpedaling and reloading would, keep the friendly fire down, familiarize yourself with how melee, secondary fire, and equipment-slot items work(learn the controls, basically)
>>89583You have to be sure to remove any embedded cover art, though, or else they won't play.
>>89547Ninja confirmed for best bro.
>>89547>If someone is on fire, you have to melee them to put them out!You get bonus points for doing this when playing as medic.
Bump for update.
With that in mind, we've added "Onslaught" mode, which introduces an AI Director that dynamically generates swarms of aliens based on several factors, such as the squad's stress level. Onslaught works with any difficulty setting and ensures no mission plays the same way twice.Speaking of difficulty, we've also added a "Brutal" difficulty level for those of you who told us "Insane" wasn't insane enough. How brutal is Brutal? Nobody on the Alien Swarm team has managed to complete a mission on it.If for some crazy reason Brutal is still too easy for you, there's now a "Hardcore Friendly Fire" toggle. When enabled, friendly fire deals full damage immediately, flamethrowers set teammates on fire much faster, and turrets will hurt you if get caught in their crossfire. Coordinating movement and firing lines becomes an even more integral part of the game. HCFF truly tests your team’s ability to work together as an elite squad. Finally, to reward the most dedicated players, we've added 3 new IAF Promotion Ranks: Platinum Star, Osmium Star, and the coveted Iridium Medallion.
>>90824 "Onslaught Mode" = Karma Mode. Enforces teamwork, and makes me fulljoy when people who don't get 'cites.
