You ever get the feeling that everyone kind of just copies everyone else?
I always felt like people said that to vent their own creative frustration. "I can't come up with something satisfyingly different...everyone else must suck too!" Like those marketing guys from old movies who are obsessed with the "new gimmick" and "something hip, something fresh, something that'll wow em!", you just sort of end up chasing your tail. Look at, say, Adventure Time and Flapjack. "Boy finds adventures in a strange world with strange friends to help him."; similar concept, yeah, but two very different shows.
I always felt it didn't matter if it was unoriginal if they pulled it off correctly. You can take a stupid story, like say there was a group of 5 people who need to team up together to save the world from the apocalypse. Not very original, but through good characters, scenes, story, settings, etc. It makes it distinct and enjoyable. That's how I see it :x
You've never heard of the 36 plots?http://www.rpglibrary.org/articles/storytelling/36plots.html
Yes, and there's nothing wrong about that.

"originality is overrated."-Shakespeare
I'm pretty sure that somewhere, at some time, nearly everything has already been thought of.
