Kay so I am not a rich person and computers are expensive so I like to help other people with their builds as a form of catharsis. Let me help you, dawg. Gonna need to know your budget, intended uses, whether you will assemble or want a prebuilt, whether you plan to overclock, and any other specifics.You can ask me about peripherals, other computer shit, and other electronics too (but other than mp3/mp4 players I don't know all that much).
>>2062Okay, sweet. So are you in the US? And are you planning to overclock or leave things stock? Is the $2000 budget for the system only or do you need to include a monitor or OS anything like that?
Oh hey, here it is.Yeah, in the US. I think I'll want to leave things stock, the 2000 budget's for the system. Mainly using this thing for making comics in Photoshop and Indesign, but would like to play games without everything going all white or wire frame on me.
>>2069Ooooh, maybe get one of those tablets with the built in monitors? I LOVE those!And lots of RAM, like, 8GB!
Haha, well don't worry your budget should be plenty for what you want.>>2071Good point, since you will be arting, d'you want to plan a tablet in there? Your budget's gonna allow for whatever you want. Except maybe I don't know, turning into a jet plane and flying you to a private island. On that note, are you sure you don't want a new monitor?Oh any what kinda case you like? Flashy or subdued or whatever?
ah bluh?
a bloo bloo bloo
All set on the tablet, so that's good.I can get a new monitor, that's other money set aside.>>2077That one looks good.
So I made a preliminary build here. You got your hard drive for storage, SSD for a boot disk, and someone advised me that with a photoshop intensive workstation, they put in a velociraptor as a dedicated scratch disk* and that it helped a lot. Since you had room in the budget for it, I put in SLI 460s (they scale better than Crossfired 5830s). It's probably overkill and we could go with a single card though.Just checked out that case you chose and there are some issues you might want to consider. Check out the video review there. If you want to look at other choices, it'd probably be a good idea and cheaper too. I'd recommend Lian Li cases http://tinyurl.com/35svjwoIf you want any changes, have any other requests, or want to offset any shipping and taxes cost, let me know and we can work around it.*Holy shit, just got a PM on the hardware forums I go to>I have 2 WD 150 gb VRaptors for sale. You can have both for less than 1 new one. Their still under warranty for 2 1/2-3 yrs yet. If interested, send your postal code for shipping info. Usually about $30 for express post, or less than $20 regular mail.It'd be a bit more hassle since we'd have to do it personally rather than through a retail site but hey, it'd be a great deal and I don't mind being the middleman if you don't. Guy's got good marketplace feedback too. I understand if you're not feeling too secure with it though.
>>2091OOPS FORGOT THE BUILDThey wanna know what you're using as a monitor. Serious business with photoshoppan and all.
>>2093I think I have that Power Supply. I'd recommend it. I also know that I bought that WD 1T hard drive. It first arrived DOA, so I sent it back, and the second one only lasted a couple of months.
>>2094FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF- Yeah I had intended to put in the Spinpoint F3 1TB but they're out of stock. Maybe it's better to just get two 500GB F3s though. It's a personal bias, I've never had any issues with, and actually quite like, Samsung products but I don't think I've ever used WD's drives. Thanks for the input, man.
>>2095After the 2 failed WD I looked for a Seagate 500GB. Since I've had my Seagate 300GB for a long time, so I trust them. The only Seagate 500GB available at the time came for "free" with a 1TB Samsung. I'm not sure which models exactly anymore. But I've had them both for over a year with no problems.
it can FFT.WHAT ELSE COULD YOU NEED?
>>2093 All right, not quite sure what to get for a monitor either, just something large enough to see what the hell I'm doing.
>>2100I think they're asking about the one you're using now.
>>2102Acer al1715 17", using painter at the mo' for art stuff. Would I be able to cannibalize the memory from my old computer? It has 8GB.
>>2098Soldering skills ; A;>>2103Thanks. Maybe, run PC Wizard and copy/paste what's under mainboard -> physical memory -> information, please.http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/pc-wizard.html
>>2104Whuf, never mind on the memory thing.
