every city/region has something that no one else does (at least i think they would). whats yours?ours is the pie floater. a simple meat pie, upturned in a bowl of thick, traditional pea soup. the home of the pie floater, the Villi's pie cart, unfortunately was retired before i moved to the city because of the fucking tram extenison.but today i found a bakery still selling them.and by the gods it was fucking delicious
Northern peninsula of Michigan's mildly famous for their pasties. I've only been up there once, but let me tell you, they deserve all the hype. As far as something a bit more local... Hungry Howie's pizza, I guess. There's plenty of that around here. Plus Faygo. You gotta have Faygo.
Chicken wings.I live in Buffalo, so that's about it. Our pizza is pretty good too, but I'm sure NYC's is better.
Quesadillas with home made tortillas.
Cheesesteaks.Although they're not that hard to get right. Just, for the love of god, don't drain the meat. I mean, I'm not saying you should make an effort to put every drop of grease into the bun. Cook enough meat for one sandwich, and don't press or drip the fat out. You're SUPPOSED to feel like you lose a week of your life with every bite. Also, the rolls are important. They should be short french breads, not large hotdug buns.Cheese and toppings, whatever. Eat what you want. Hot sauce, peppers, onions, it's all personal preference. Cheese is usually provolone or something processed like american/pizza cheese/cheez whiz, but if you want cheddar or something go ahead.
Well I'm in Philly now, but in Boston I guess it's seafood. Probably the most famous are the lobster rolls which are pretty good.Actually, I go to a family party every year on Cape Cod, and we have a big cookout on the beach. There's a tidepool thing a half mile walk from where we usually are, and all the kids go digging for clams/quahogs in there, they're really easy to find. Then we bring them back (and by this point there's a lot, so it's multiple buckets), and we throw them all in a big pot over the fire and cook them in seawater. We do the same with corn on the cob.I swear to God it's the most heavenly meal of the year. Om nom nom ilu Cape Cod <3
>>1869Also I failed hard at spelling "hotdog" correctly.
>>1871Fun fact: I read that as 'hotclog.'
Of course all I can think of is sweets. I believe it's a Southern thing in general, but pralines. By God, pralines. For the uninitiated, they are candied pecans... look, I don't know the details, I just know how much I miss them. ;_;
>>I'm sure NYC's is betterYou're goddamn right it is.Seriously, best Pizza in the world here.
Oh and Bagels. I hate when I go to the rest of the country and they give me round peices of dough they think are bagels.
Fry Sauce.that right, not even a proper dish. just fry sauce.
>>1922I'm strangely compelled to try it.
>>1922Mayo and ketchup? Where I come from thats 1000 island dressing
>>1922I do the same thing, only with mayo and curry sauce.
>>1910My aunt makes kickass pralines. She somehow prevents the shitty caramel effect so it's delicious and crumbly sugarbutterpecans. also I made some kickass gumbo just this night. Coastal-Texas-near-Louisiana represent.
>>1863I fucking loathe pie floaters.
>>2085Likewise. They combine my two most hated foods into a bottomless abyss of stench and horror. I just feel so unaustralian when I say that.
>>2088I can't stand pea soup. Cannot fucking stand it!A pie I can do though. Especially when it's filled with actual meat and not just a bunch of offal.
>>1936Doesn't 1000 island also have relish in it? Or does it vary by region?
>that no one else does Here in south Texas, the local hispanics enjoy a cup of various chopped fruit.......covered in mayo and chili powder. Shit is weird and I don't like it.
>>2125I like it when, instead of fruits, it's corn in a cup. Mayo and some parma cheese on top. :V The icecream guy here, in winter, he sells hot corn in cups. fuck yeah.
Do I have to be specific or could I go wild on saying the meals of my delicious country?Sure, we're closing to live in awful conditions of living, but we'll still be eating better than a lot of americans, no offense, you just have a lot of fast food.
>>2115I can eat at the same table as a person eating a meat pie. That's about it. If someone is cooking pea soup, the smell drives me out of the house.
Nova Scotia hereSeafood.That is all.
I'm drawing a blank on food, but as far as I know Nevada is one of the few places you can get a sloe gin fizz made for you in a bar without so much as a blink.
Probably moose jerky and caribou sausage or something like that. One of those things you can't buy, you just have to know people to get it.
Kansas has nothing unique
are hot dogs wrapped in bacon with mayo and other fixins a local specialty as far a SoCal.
>>2311 Ribs
>>2414If by that you mean Kansas City, well that's actually mostly in Missouri.Yeah...
>>1863PIE FLO-...damnit hydra.uh shit NO WHERE ELSE EATS KANGAROO RIGHT?yeah that sure why not.
>>2469We actually export more kangaroo to Russia than we eat at home. Go figure.
>>2490Apparently Kangaroo is the leading ingredient in hypoallergenic dog food.Or at least the brand my friend buys.
