>>Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service for Nintendo DS and Wii to end in May

Maybe, since these games won't have their online functionality anymore, Nintendo will finally lower the MSRP of the affected games so they aren't the same as they've been since launch?

(Hahaha, no.)

Despite playing quite a few of those games, I either didn't use or notice that some had any wi-fi capability at all. I never even checked to see if Tetris DS could do anything besides the main six modes of play, though to be fair that didn't come with a package or instruction manual to inform me of it and Tetris alone is addicting enough that I wouldn't check while playing.

Also how many of those games are even still selling? Certainly Pokemon HeartGold isn't at regular MSRP in any retail stores, physical or online.

I'd be surprised if you can find it in stores as new, though; I could only find it at Gamestop with a quick search.

But there are even older games still selling new. I recall being in a Worst Buy last month and seeing copies of Super Mario 64 DS, still going for $30.
>> No. 185813
I remember only a year or two ago seeing Diamond and Pearl at either a Target or Gamestop, still for $30.

But, ironically, new online copies cost even more now because they're actually keeping in mind how few are left unopened--Amazon is charging $50.

>Little Mac being announced for Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS was a big deal here in the states, but what did our friends in Japan think of the reveal? It seems that Punch-Out!! is a bit more highly regarded here than in the land of the rising sun...

- The Punch-Out guy?
- He’s always been a highly-wanted character overseas
- Too niche, should’ve been left as a trophy. They should be using other companies’ characters before ones like this
- He’s extremely popular overseas and has been around since the Famicom days. I only learned about him from Captain Rainbow, though
- I dunno who this is. They should’ve used the guy from Kung Fu instead
- I think they should’ve left this as a secret character
- Makes sense for him to be in it, I expected some retro game characters
- The guy from Punch-Out? Is he really that memorable enough to be in Smash Bros?
- This guy was pretty strong assist character. So he’s gonna be an actual character now?
- I’m not as mad as I am dumbfounded. These character choices are such a joke

More comments here:

>Since Japan doesn't seem too interested in Little Mac, just who do they want in the game? You can see some often-requested characters below.

Dasiy should be an alternate outfit for Peach. There's really no use in having both.

I love Xenoblade Chronicles (though I admit that She-Hulk was my first thought on reading that, too), but I agree he shouldn't be in the game. However, it's not because of Shulk's aesthetic (we already have characters representing the entire band of realism); I'd say that he's not quirky enough to fit the roster. The Monado would make for a great Final, but unless they give him something special he'll seem kind of blah compared to most of the other characters; Fire Emblem already fills this role.

Now, if he had a "re-equip" feature where he could change his armor and weapon (a Monado knock-off) mid-battle to change some of his stats (think Erza from Fairy Tail), with his Final Smash being a switch to his starting gear and the real Monado, that would be something. There are enough outfits in the game to give him three or four distinct ones: Entia, Machina, etc.

But, aside from that, late-game Fiora or Riki would be a better fit for the game. (And if we had Fiora there would be more porn of her...)

I'm not surprised that the 3DS game is essentially the SNES game with a slightly different visual style. Yoshi's Story took more risks with the formula established by Yoshi's Island than any other sequel, but even now people are still divided on it. Yoshi's Island DS added an interesting gimmick with the baby abilities that also enhanced replayability and was extremely challenging to boot - to the point I'm personally unsure whether it goes into broken territory. But it doesn't seem like many people noticed it. Then you have Yarn Yoshi, which some people will avoid because of the visuals or simply because they don't own a Wii U. Better to go the safe route and put out a game that's familiar.

No, it's more along the lines that he completely missed how tornyfags work.
It was Final Destination/ Battlefield only because just about every other stage was so godamn random and filled with gimmicks that matches on those levels weren't about skill, but sheer luck.
Instead of turning off stage gimmicks or making a few more balanced stages for the rotation they just quarter baked a concept and said "Fuck it, Final Destination. Whatever. Tornyfags got all they need."

In short, Nintendo still doesn't know what the hell it's doing when it comes to anything competitive or internet related. And the worst of it? They could have spent half a ay researching common torny problems and worked with those in mind to develop a better mode, but they clearly didn't.

What did he say that was wrong exactly?

I don't do much competitive smashing myself. In fact, I don't do any of it. But I do know enough about it that Final Destination was by far not the only tourney legal stage in the game. Did you know Pokefloats (and IIRC pokemon stadium) are both tournament legal?

That "1v1 fox on Final Destination" joke was funny, but you're not supposed to take it as gospel. The way I understand it, having moving stages and shit is fine. The issue is the level of randomness that comes with it, hence pokefloats.

I don't mean to sound rude, but at least do a little research.

I really have a lot of fun playing both tourney style 1v1 no items and playing free-for-all silly matches with items on. Really, I think both ways of play have a lot of value and are fun in their own way. Something I think is pretty silly though is that as much as tourneyfags and casual smashers bitch about each other, the ones that bitch on either side are essentially saying "They don't play the game the way they should, they are having fun the wrong way."

I enjoy fair, hazard-free levels as much as I enjoy a lot of the crazy stages. But here I really think Nintendo just saw the Fox-Only-No-Items-Final-Destination meme and took it as an accurate portrayal of tourneyplayers. More hazardless stages is fine, but for variety's sake most of them should have some layout of platforms.

On another note, City Trial Smash looks really awesome.

>Did you know Pokefloats (and IIRC pokemon stadium) are both tournament legal?

Poke Stadium is legal, but Floats was put on the banned list a while ago. Personally, I think it should be made legal again.

>"They don't play the game the way they should, they are having fun the wrong way."

Yeah, this is what I don't get. Ignoring the fact that these are video games and you should be able to do whatever's fun on your own time and space, the game itself gives you the options to select characters, items (item frequency even), and stages. Given all that choice, what does it matter to you if people decide to play one way or the other? The game gives them the choice. Smash isn't about one thing or the other, it's about fine tuning everything to your preferences.

So someone states more or less that they're annoyed that the dev team thinks tournament players only want to play on final destination and that a few other stages like Battlefield should have been added to "For Glory" is the reason nobody likes people not like you? Are we really kicking it back to grade school here?

And asking for a handful of stages that don't spawn rape lasers, windstorms, or hand random enemies that appear or flip the stages gravity and all aren't in line with a game that has always had a few "vanilla stages" is a huge problem and contradiction to the setting, if not impossible to do?

Personally, I find most of the criticisms of the For Glory mode to come off as kind of whiny, making me less sympathetic to the plight of "fighting game enthusiasts." This is less of an issue with content and more of an issue of tone.

Also, the game will sell fine if the netcode is garbage, I think. It's Smash. It would drive me nuts, though, because all of my multiplayer gaming is done online now. Even when I was in college it was hard to set up meets. Online is just easier now, so if it's not good, I'll be a sad panda.

If by "information so far" you mean it being confirmed that "For Glory" will only have Final Destination then sure. I can guarantee you that if they added Battlefield, like they should have, this wouldn't be an issue. People are mad because they really did half ass it or at the very least, misunderstood what the competitive community wanted and only met them part way. If we're lucky they will realize this problem and correct it or release a patch since they can finally do that. I don't have much hope for it though.

But hey you know what could have fixed everything and made everyone happy? Lobbies. Lobbies where you set your own rules and people can join or spectate. Just like every other fighting game ever. BUT that's kind of intensive and i'm not sure Nintendo is ready for that.

In other news, I'm expecting Falco and Ganon not to make it in and for their special moves to be options in the Custom Moveset mode for Fox and C. Falcon respectively.

Still hoping for some CustomRobo, Isaac, and Krystal since they where left out of the assist trophy lineup along with Tingle.

No form changing in Kerfuffle means no more Pokemon Trainer. I'm honestly a little upset over that. It was such a cool thing to finally see. Not just a pokemon, but a trainer himself, and the one who was a spiritual successor to your Gen 1 player character at that. It was like you playing Pokemon inside of another game. I'd wanted that ever since I played the first game on the N64, and I'm not even a big Pokemon fan. It just seemed like the next step after including Pikachu. Plus it had the advantage of broader Pokemon representation, which is kind of hard now after so many generations and 'face' pokemon like the successive waves of starters and legendaries.

Removing the forced character swap allows players to play who they want. But I definitely agree with you. Pokemon Trainer is still just a fun idea. But...bloomers are actually a fairly practical piece of underwear. I mean the whole reason bloomers became a thing was because Victorian women needed some clothing that didn't restrict their movement. It's not like she's wearing like a bajillion petticoats or something.

Paper Mario 64 is still damn good, though not quite AS good. It doesn't have much to do with paper unlike TTYD, and the plot is just the generic "Bowser kidnapped the princess" shtick. Most of the places you'll go to find the macguffins don't have fun gimmicks like in TTYD. But the writing is still solid and so is the music, the gameplay is still fun too, and I found it to be more challenging than TTYD overall. It's definitely the best RPG on N64.

Super Paper Mario, damn fun but it's not much of an RPG. More of a platformer with RPG elements. The writing and story are even better than TTYD and the puzzles are very clever too, but it's not very challenging, it's pretty short and the gameplay gets kinda repetitive after awhile. Some love it, some hate it. I say check it out.

Sticker Star, don't bother. Very lackluster and shallow. Not worth checking out.

Be sure to check out Super Mario RPG and the M&L series too. All of them are great.

Gen 3 is probably my favorite in terms of all the wandering and exploring you can do, which is also what a lot of people cite as its weakness. (another weakness was being pre-physical/special moves but we didn't know that at the time) I remember finding all sorts of little groves and caves off the main path like there's a world outside the routes and cities, none of the other games really did that.

That's only necessary when the water is huge and open. Areas in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald were barely any wider than on land.
